Mr. Righi's nightmare began in 2007 when he decided to visit Cadiz with his partner, Jo Fiori, and their three dogs, Holly, Vito and Maggie. The couple sought a residence in which to house the dogs for four days. Advised by a police officer opted for staying at the private residence of Puerto Real for a fee. After four days, the couple returned to pick up their dogs, but they were gone. Holly, Vito and Maggie had been killed along with other dogs.

Within twenty days of the incident, on 7 October 2007, organized a demonstration in Cadiz condemned the cruel murder of thousands of animals illegally and cruel at the Puerto Real dog pound, where Simone and Jo had lost loved ones.
